26 November - Stone Masonry, Stone Carving and Mosaics at Cathedrals and Abbeys

a talk by Nick Durnan, who has spent 45 years working on cathedrals such as Wells, Exeter and Canterbury, he finds any alabaster he needs on the shore at Watchet. Nick has spent his life so far working on the fabric of old buildings. He runs courses on stone conservation at his workshop in nearby Drayton. His talk is said to be excellent!

The Martock Local History Group

We are based in Martock, Somerset and meet monthly for lectures on local historical topics. We also carry out research into the history of Martock, its inhabitants and local archaeology.

New Venue

We have had some excellent meetings of late, as well as the odd crisis.
The school suddenly told us we can no longer use their hall, our new venue will be in the Princes (Function) room behind The George Inn in Church Street TA12 6JL.
Tea from 7, talks start 7.30pm. Free to members, £3 if not. There is parking on site, the room is upstairs with a chair lift.

This pdf file covers the addition of the Bell Tower to Holy Trinity Ash as the village’s war memorial, the story of the local people that built the tower and the back stories of the five men on the Ash Roll of Honour who paid the ultimate sacrifice serving their country.
